A must-see on your visit to Alsace!
On the Alsace wine route, the Alsatian village of Mittelwihr attracts large numbers of visitors every March to admire its almond trees in bloom. Almond trees are the first fruit trees to flower at the end of winter.
The almond trees on the Mandelberg in Mittelwihr don’t blossom for long (around two weeks, depending on the weather), and they’re not to be missed!
Legend has it that Charlemagne, passing through with his companions, spent the night on the hill and forgot a bag of almonds. Farmers picked them up the next day and buried them. Since then, almond trees have grown on this hill.
The Mandelberg hill is just 5 minutes from Les deux belettes gite in RIQUEWIHR. Situated in the middle of the vineyards, it’s also a great starting point for a magnificent walk through the vines.
Every year, the winegrowers of Mittelwihr also organise events.

La floraison des amandiers du Mandelberg à Mittelwihr ne dure pas longtemps (environ deux semaines selon la météo) et il ne faut surtout pas la manquer !
Selon la légende, Charlemagne, de passage avec ses compagnons, aurait passé la nuit sur la colline et aurait oublié un sac d’amandes. Des paysans les auraient ramassées le lendemain et les auraient enterrées. C’est depuis ce temps-là que les amandiers poussent sur cette colline.
La colline du Mandelberg est à seulement à 5 minutes du gite Les deux belettes à RIQUEWIHR. Située au milieu des vignes, c’est également un très bon point de départ pour une magnifique balade à travers les vignes.
Chaque année, les vignerons de Mittelwihr proposent également des animations.
